Great story good for kids and adults, especially if your from Long Island and have been to Sailors Haven. I bought a bunch of them to give out for Christmas. Enjoy you will love it.

Such a sweet story and great incentive to visit your local animal shelter and give a deserving dog( or cat!) a loving home! Well done Jean and Amelina.... and of course all made possible by the Famous Phoebe!

What a great story about child(pup)hood. Sweet memories of the adventures we share with our family, the wonderful friends we met along the way, great times that will stay with us forever. The show of love this couple has for the new addition to their family is beautiful, and you can just see how safe the pup feels with his new mom and dad. The innocence of the pup when he learns a lesson of not wandering too far away. There is pure/innocent happiness in this book, and it sure bought a smile to my face. A book your child, and yourself, will want to read over and over.

I was lucky enough to know Phoebe having lived next door to her when Jean and Frank adopted her. She was a wonderful dog with a loving and gentle spirit which was 1000% reflected in this story. I read to my kids every night, and this book is the perfect book for my children- ages 1.5 & 3. My son is in the phase of life where he doesn’t know how to stop talking, asking why…. When I read him the story about Phoebe he is actually quiet and listens intently. Perhaps it’s phoebe herself, all the animals she meets along the way, the perfect Childrens storyline in combo with the wonderful illustrations…. Whatever it is, thank you Jean Jean a for tickling my nostalgia - and for buying me a couple of minutes of silence from my inquisitive boy.

Jean Derespina’s “The Famous Phoebe of Long Island” is a charming story about her beloved dog, Phoebe, who accompanied her and husband Frank on many fun adventures. In this beautiful and colorfully illustrated book, narrator Phoebe brings to life the boat trip they all took to Sailors Haven on Long Island one summer day. There she chases a seagull down the beach, plays in the water, and generally has a rollicking good time with Jean, Frank and the various animals she meets and befriends. I highly recommend “The Famous Phoebe of Long Island” as a gift for any child in your life who loves animals (and especially dogs). You might find yourself in love with Phoebe, too!

I received a copy from the author personally at a fair at Ocean Beach where she was promoting the book. I also ordered a copy for my niece who is a teacher of pre-school. It is a sweet story
told from the eyes of this beautiful dog named Phoebe. I love the illustrations as well. Anyone who has traveled out to Fire Island can appreciate her adventures to Sailor's Haven . What a lucky dog she was to be rescued by her new pet parents Jean and Frank who loved her dearly and gave her the best life. What a tribute to her to be the main star in this book of adventures. I recommend this book to all!

This was really just a wonderful and sweet story! Both my kids (4 & 6) really loved it and loved being on the adventure with Phoebe! They were both super engaged for the entire story and have asked to read it again and again (and again haha). The illustrations are so amazing! Definitely recommended!!

What a great way for my grandchildren to escape from today’s craziness to the sweet, simple pleasures in life. They really enjoyed reading the story to me and sharing in Phoebe’s adventures with her loving parents on Long Island. What a lucky pup! The illustrations are great too. I highly recommend this children’s book.
